On Tuesday, July 19, I was blessed to have a vibing stu session and mini photoshoot w THE ZENNY WRIGHT, producer, musician, artist, music historian and overall creative. This was our second creative session together where we are working on a song he produced along with THE Shea Harris, musician, artist, photographer, videographer, painter and amazing being as one of the song's writers and features.

If you've been to the Memphis Listening Lab in Crosstown Concourse in midtown, you've prob seen Malik (gov name, lol) somewhere bouncing to a rhythm either you can or cannot hear at all, but HE can hear it. I haven't known this soul for extremely long but I have yet to see him at a "stand still" at any given point. REALLY! He loves and curates' music so much, he is just always creating a rhythm.

Sooooo I met Malik at The Poetry 901 Open Mic that I Co-Host ever Monday night at the Hi-Tone Cafe! He immediately caught my attention in the back of the room, and I happen to turn around and literally see him bouncing and tapping his leg on the stool he's sitting on. I proceed to walk up to him to say something like "I see you be in your own rhythm ALL the time!" lol, literally it was stuff going on all around him and he was so solid in his beatmaking happening in his mind... that day, I was captivated by someone with their own sense of solitude and inner peace. He also happens to be the cousin of one of my great friends and musician supporters, THE TRAPSTAR ROCKSTAR $TEP, one of the coldest guitar players out of Memphis! Ever since finding that out, it's like Malik be everywhere now & I love that for him!

Watching his music work ethic has been refreshing. He is intentional in making his name known to the right people at the right time. It's very enlightening and uplifting. His high inner g is divine to be around. Recording with him has been a very relaxing and free space. His creativity is literally 'out of this world'. His ear for music is impeccable. I am TRULY looking forward to creating more with him at the Listening Lab AND outside of Concourse! (Be on the lowkey lookout for upcoming music things for the community from him!)

So, this mane is ALWAYS FRESH. OK?! I grew up with a fresh ass brother (that Malik happens to look & dress like exactly, lol) so I know fashion and style when I peep it. I'm also a designer that studies clothing, so the girl knows quality! The day of our second creative session, he happens to be wearing a fly vintage-style fit that I just know my brother would've worn verbatim back in like 2013-2014. Because the fit was giving me personal nostalgia, I just had to ask if I could shoot the fit for the blog & my guy said yes! The rest is history!!
